American Microphone Launches Podcast on July 4th

American Microphone debuts their weekly current affairs program on July 4th. Beginning with several veterans and media personalities, the program covers news and politics "straight from the horse’s mouth," according to producer Robert Millis. "I originally developed this program because I wanted to find the stories of Iraq that I couldn’t get from the mainstream press. I decided to present the stories myself."

straight from the horse’s mouth
As a documentary producer who follows politics closely, Mr. Millis points out that Iraq veterans were practically absent during the 2004 campaigns, but says that will change for 2008.

"Veterans will be a force to reckon with in the next presidential election," he asserts, "and the media hasn’t realized that yet. There is a very powerful and politically savvy part of the country that is aware of this, and they are the same people who realize that some of the best reporting is often found online. That’s our audience."

Other political news is available in podcasts, but few have made the commitment to deliver regular, well produced programming. What makes American Microphone different? It may be reflected in the slogan Mr. Millis like to use: 'Conversations with the Nation.'

"We’re not trying to polarize people to build hype," he says. "I’m not going to hide my personal opinions, but I’m interested in finding common ground on issues that require it. How do we solve our nation's problems? I believe it begins with public discussion. That’s what American Microphone is really about."

So then who can we expect to see on this program?

"A broad range of people, liberal and conservative. Many of them you’ll recognize, but everyone is chosen because they have a uniquely valuable perspective. Every time you tune in, I want you to learn something new about your world. Whether it’s a U.S. soldier, an Iraqi translator, a mother, a congressman—every story we share is unique."
