New Online: Interactive Crossword Puzzles

December 6, 2004 -- Jacob Richman, the creator of the educational website "Learning Vocabulary Can Be Fun" (www.vocabulary.co.il) has just released a new game called "Interactive Crossword Puzzles".

The interactive system has 21 topics to choose from with a database of over 3,000 words and clues. "What makes this online crossword puzzle unique is that each time you play the game, the system generates a new puzzle based on a database of clues and words. No two puzzles will ever be the same", says Jacob.

The game has real time scoring were points are awarded for correct words and points are deducted for letter hints. There is also a "check feature" to see if the words you filled-in are correct as you play the game.

"Over the years we have gotten feedback from both teachers and students to the other educational games we have developed. Incorporating their input, we have developed an interface that is both friendly and easy to use."

The crossword puzzle has 2 levels of words for each topic: an easy level for young students and a harder level for older students and adults. "A team of English teachers spent many hours creating the word lists and clues. We wanted to make sure that not only was the game entertaining but that it was also educational and suitable for use in the classroom as well as the home."

With the classroom in mind, the system has a built-in function that teachers can use to print empty puzzles to distribute in class. They can also print the puzzle "solved" to use as a handy answer key.

Based on the feedback on previously released games, Jacob is confident that the new game will be frequently accessed by students and teachers worldwide.

"Last year we released the online game "Hangman" which is our most popular game on the site. English teachers from all over the world sent us email with words of praise. We believe that the crossword puzzle system we developed will become very popular, very quickly. People young and old like to play Crossword Puzzles. The game is challenging and educational. Our online version takes the playing field to a higher level."

Access to the vocabulary site, including the new crossword puzzle, is free. There is no registration process and anyone with an Internet connection can visit the site and improving their vocabulary while having fun. The address of the site is:
