New Found Art or Next Lost Art?

Dragonfly’s, Preying Mantis, "Bell Ringing" Crickets, and Japanese Beetles made in Japan are the newest collectibles now available in the U.S.

From the mountains near Mt. Fuji, this new contemporary art craft has emerged and is fast becoming the talk of the town. Popular is the Dragonfly that balances and rotates on its nose - ranging in size from a few inches to a wingspan of two feet.

The balancing Dragonfly is a sought after collectible in the U.S., as one Asian art enthusiast commented, "It’s reassuring to know that hand crafted items of this quality are not a lost art."

Antique bamboo over 100 years old is used in some items and there are displays containing plum flowers, persimmons, water wells, and crabs. The Preying Mantis and Japanese Beetles are especially life-like with the intricate detail and patience of the craftsman showing throughout each piece.

Is this the next art to be lost? When the existing antique bamboo supply is depleted – there is no more. When the artists are no longer able to craft from bamboo - will the craft disappear? Only time will tell, but for now there’s time to enjoy and appreciate the quality and beauty of this new found art.
