Save ANGEL Campaign Aims to "Fight the Good Fight" With Creative Fan Competition

SaveAngel.org announces the "Fight the Good Fight" Fan Competition, in celebration of the TV series ANGEL and in honor of its creative fan community.

"The aim is to continue the legacy of the show, celebrating the five glorious years it gave fans and keeping spirit high for the still very alive fight," said contest organizer, Patricia, a professor from Las Vegas. The campaign is currently "raising the bar" in promoting an ANGEL movie, and pushing ahead for a spin-off series.

Fans can enter art work and personal writing inspired by the show to win recognition and prizes.

Included in the prize pool are props from Rob Hall, owner of Almost Human, the special effects company responsible for the incredible make-up on ANGEL. Hall counts the experience of getting to work on ANGEL as "life-changing" and said of the campaigns to save the series, "I felt very fortunate to have such a strong fanbase behind us. It was the ultimate validation that you are doing something many people care for greatly."

Entries to the graphics contest begin May 26 and runs through June 16. Fans may enter the writing contest starting June 23, through July 7.

The top graphics entries will be selected by the contest committee, with the winners voted on by the 1000 members of the SaveAngel.org Discussion Forums.

The writing contest's winners will be chosen by a panel of guest judges including editors from BenBella Books, publishers of the Joss Whedon biography; author Nikki Stafford, author of "Bite Me" unofficial guide to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and up-coming "Once Bitten" guide to Angel; John Passarella, author of ANGEL novel "Monolith"; Minnesota journalist and fan John Hansen; and Professors David Lavery and Rhonda Wilcox, editors of "Slayage" International Journal of Buffy Studies.

Lavery and Wilcox recently convened the Slayage Conference in Nashville, Tennessee attended by over 300 academics and scholars from around the world.

Lavery notes that the "extremely playful" nature of the series inspires creativity by "inviting fans to be similarly playful."

The competition prizes include signed books donated by BenBella: copies of the "Joss Whedon" biography by Candy Havens, "Seven Seasons of Buffy", and an exclusive pre-release edition of "Five Seasons of Angel." Author John Passarella has donated a signed edition of his new ANGEL novel, "Monolith." Joss Whedon, J. August Richards and Mark Lutz have indicated they will be providing autographed photos.

Among the unique prizes are an antique 1950s suitcase custom decoupaged with images from ANGEL by artist Anne Snair; and a two-night stay at a hotel in Orlando, Florida.
