New Website, PiecesofPlaces.com, Features Exquisite American Treasures From Every Corner of the US

When Clare Liberis and Natalie Phillips decided to launch a website dedicated to selling exceptional home and gift products made by talented American artisans they searched for the perfect quote to introduce their Home page. They found it. Renowned American artist, Georgia O’Keeffe said "One cannot be an American by going about saying that one is an American. It is necessary to feel America, like America, love America and then work."

PiecesofPlaces.com was founded to honor the diversity of America’s people, culture, landscape and resources as defined by its six distinct regions: New England, the Mid-Atlantic, the South, the Midwest, the Southwest, and the West. Shoppers can find gifts for her, for him, for baby, for the home, or for themselves. They can shop by region or specific category. Items as diverse as the men, women, and children of this country can be found there.

While researching their business before launching it, Ms. Liberis and Ms. Phillips discovered that attitudes toward American-made products had deteriorated from what they remembered when they were growing up. Erroneous conclusions about quality, price, and status were beginning to take hold among Americans and they felt it was time to set the record straight.

They proceeded to travel around the country looking for items uniquely American in that they are made with American resources, by Americans. “We found that it is very easy for US companies to get lost in the crowd of imports. Buyers’ markets and wholesale trade shows often fail to provide an easy way to find the American companies among the sea of foreign-made product” said Ms. Liberis. Rather than allow that to discourage them, the partners became even more determined. What they found renewed their pride and faith in the American way. They discovered talented craftspeople working with every type of material from leather to wood to glass to textiles. Most use traditional artisan techniques to produce their products rather than relying on mass production. A perfect example is the fine hand-etched crystal by Colorado artist, Lorraine Coyle. Ms. Coyle has created her exquisite multi-level cut glassware for Presidents, famous collectors, and major corporations.

Ms. Phillips points out that “the products we carry are mostly handmade, and many are fine-art quality. The artists that we choose to feature are those that have learned how to use their talents to respond to consumers’ needs. Items are both artistic and functional.” Brooklyn photographer, Adrienne Jennings, fashions amazing lamps with shades that feature her photographs. Each panel of the shade is a fine-art quality, black and white photographic print allowing the brilliance of the image to come through.

The partners are committed to continuing to provide an ever-changing array of special products. So far, they have received lots of positive feedback from their customers. Comments include words like “beautiful”, “easy-to-navigate” and “unique”. Just like America.
