LiveAuctioneers Signs Internet Service Agreement with Sotheby’s, Weschler’s and Doyle New York

LiveAuctioneers.com, the Manhattan-based company that provides real time Internet bidding capability to more than 130 auction houses, has signed an agreement with Sotheby’s New York branch to provide its services for selected Sotheby’s sales.

LiveAuctioneers’ CEO, Julian R. Ellison, confirmed that his company’s working association with Sotheby’s will commence with the April 20 Arcade Jewels sale. Other events on Sotheby’s 2004 roster that will offer Internet bidding capability through LiveAuctioneers.com include the highly important series of art auctions on May 5, May 18 and May 19 benefiting The Greentree Foundation. The latter three sales include Impressionist, Modern and American paintings and the fine and decorative art collection donated to The Greentree Foundation by Mr. and Mrs. John Hay Whitney. President and CEO of Sotheby’s Holdings Inc., Bill Ruprecht, has described the foundation’s collection as “the most extraordinary group of paintings that Sotheby’s has ever had the opportunity to auction.”

Confirmation of the agreement struck between Sotheby’s New York and LiveAuctioneers.com comes on the heels of two other important milestones: news that LiveAuctioneers also has been chosen to provide Internet bidding services for the premier Washington D.C. auction house Weschler’s, as well as Doyle New York.

“Signing Weschler’s, Doyle New York and now Sotheby’s takes LiveAuctioneers to a new dimension. We are absolutely delighted,” Ellison said. “These three companies operate at the very highest levels and are entrusted with some of the most prestigious estates and collections. In association with eBayLiveAuctions, we have the ability to bring a global bidding audience to their sales, just as we do for all of our other auction house clients, utilizing a platform that is safe and secure.”
